The Dragon
Weather with an opinion
The animal on this page is not the one from your birth year. That one comes from the year branch; this one comes from the branch of the day you were born — the day branch, as a reading calls it. Everything below is about that seat.
You and I are not small, and we stopped apologising for it some time ago.
The Dragon in Korean Saju
You are not a small presence, and you have probably stopped trying to be. You think in scale, you are drawn to what has not been done yet, and ordinary maintenance bores you. The cost is that you can mistake the size of an idea for its soundness.

As your day branch
The Dragon is a day branch of ambition and reach — the one animal in the cycle that is not real, and behaves accordingly.
What this animal is like in a chart
The Dragon closes spring by gathering it into storage — the only mythical animal in the twelve, holding the month when growth commits. A Dragon day branch is read as scale: appetite for the large, tolerance of the unfinished, and a gravitational pull on other people’s plans. It is considered a storehouse branch, holding Water in reserve beneath its Earth.
The vault is there and it does not open. The Dragon’s hidden Wood and Water are resources it rarely shows and sometimes forgets it has. The classical reading names the cost plainly: a Dragon day can spend a life managing its own legend instead of opening the vault.
With the other animals
Bound to — The Rooster
The Dragon and the Rooster make one of the six harmonies (六合) — the closest tie two branches can hold. Day charts pairing them are read as binding: easy to fall into, hard to leave.
Struck against — The Dog
The Dog sits directly opposite the Dragon on the cycle — the classical clash (沖). Not incompatibility: a pairing that will not let either side stay where it was.
Allied with — The Monkey & The Rat
With the Monkey and the Rat, the Dragon completes a three-harmony triad (三合) that pulls toward Water — three branches that convert best as a team.
Most people have never been told theirs. It takes a birth date, and a minute.
